The Hubbub
The
dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) mentions
that, when the word "algarabía" comes from the Hispanic Arabic al'arabíyya ,
it refers to the Arabic language . In addition, in the
colloquial language, it is called "algarabía" to oral or written
language that is not understood .
By extension
these meanings, it is called babble to bustle and crying that
occurs when many people speak simultaneously. The hubbub is also the way
of talking run over. For example: "Why is there so much
cacophony in this place? What are all these people celebrating? " , "
We're going somewhere else: with this hubbub we can not talk in peace , ""
I could not sleep all night because of the hubbub generated by my neighbors . "
If we focus
on the third example, we can see one of the contexts in which this term appears
more frequently: the parties and informal meetings . Music
composed specifically to break the ice and dance carefree are often combined
with meals that invite great encounters between friends and family, and all
this results in an environment where rejoicce reigns, where many conversations,
laughter and shrieks overlap. they only seem to make sense within the group
that produces them.
For this
reason, it can happen that the hubbub of some becomes the discomfort of others:
if a person decides to hold a meeting at home in the middle of the
week that lasts until late at night, with the characteristics set out in the
paragraph above, it is likely to bother a neighbor who must get up very early
to go to work or study. Although for this there are rules within each community
of neighbors, many times the solution arrives too late.
In
many regions , the joke is usually associated with joy or good
humor : "The singer was greeted with racket by his fans at the
airport" , "Follow the hubbub in the city after the triumph
last night" , "With a triple in the last second, Kobe
Bryant unleashed the hubbub . "
Algarabía,
on the other hand, is the common name that several plants receive . In
general, the notion refers to the Mantisalca salmantica , which
belongs to the group of asteráceas.
This plant
has several peculiarities related to its name . In the first
place, the two terms that make up its scientific name consist of the same
syllables, although in a different order: Man-ti-sal-ca sal-man-ti-ca . On
the other hand, the list of common names that it receives according to the
region is practically endless; In addition to hullabaloo , it is
also known as escobera, cabezuelas, cabezuela broom, broom, shepherd's
bread, thistle of balls and stebe of Salamanca , among many
others.
With regard
to the habitat of this hubbub, we can say that it covers the whole of
the Mediterranean with the exception of Corsica and Crete, meaning that it
includes Mallorca, Morocco and Israel. It is a ruderal plant ,
that is, it occurs in habitats that have been modified by human beings, such as
abandoned land that used to be used for cultivation, urban areas or
roadsides. More specifically, the Salmantic Mantisalca prefers
dry and arid rocky places.
Until
recently, this plant was used as raw material to make brooms, and from there
arose some of their common names. Given its medicinal properties, some
people use it to treat diabetes naturally, since it contributes to
the reduction of blood glucose levels.
The viscous
Parentucellia and Agrostis nebulosa are other plants known as
babble.
In Spain ,
at the end of the decade of 1970 there was a magazine called "Algarabía" ,
with a circulation of seven thousand copies. A Mexican publication with a
circulation of ninety thousand copies per month is also called "Algarabía" .
