Electricity
The word
electricity can be clearly seen to have its etymological origin in the Greek
term elektron that can be translated as
"amber". Starting from the same it is established that the
person who coined this term was more specifically the English scientist William
Gilbert who in the XVI century spoke of "electrical" to mention the
phenomena of loads of attraction that the Greeks already discovered.
The electricity is
a physical property manifested through the attraction or rejection exercising
together the different parts of matter. The origin of this property is
found in the presence of negatively charged components (called electrons )
and others with positive charge ( protons ).
Electricity,
on the other hand, is the name that receives a kind of energy that is
based on that physical property and that manifests itself both in motion
(the current ) and in the state of rest (the static ). As
an energy source, electricity can be used for lighting or to
produce heat , for example.
Not
only man generates electricity manipulating different factors: natureproduces
this energy in storms, when the energy transfer that occurs between a part of
the atmosphere and the surface of the planet causes a discharge of
electricity in the form of lightning. Natural electricity is also found in
biological functioning and allows the development and activity of the nervous
system.
Beyond these
natural phenomena, the human being has been dedicated to generating electricity
to start up all kinds of machines, devices and transport systems.
As we say,
today electricity is essential because thanks to it we carry out a myriad of
tasks and we have the possibility to enjoy applications that facilitate us and
improve our quality of life. Thus, thanks to that we have lighting and we
can make use of a series of devices such as washing machines, refrigerators,
televisions, computers or air conditioning systems.
It is clear,
therefore, that electricity has become an indispensable element in this sense
and this has brought serious consequences. Specifically, we refer to the
fact that the need we have of it to develop our day to day has meant that it
must be mass produced to meet the demand that exists throughout the
world. A fact that significantly damages the environment.
For this
reason, a series of projects and initiatives of various kinds is currently
being developed with the clear objective of using the existing natural
resources to generate this electricity without damaging our
environment. Thus, for example, there are panels that capture the energy
of the sun to be able to operate from the light of a home to an air
conditioning system.
It is known
as electrical conductivity , on the other hand, to the ability of a
material to enable the current of electricity to pass through its surface. The
opposing faculty, which appears when the electrons are resistant to the
movement of the current, is known as resistivity .
The electrical
conductors , therefore, are those materials which, when in contact with a
body charged with electricity, said transmitted energy to the entire surface.
