The Mutant

The Mutant

Mutant is that subject to a mutation . To mutate , on the other hand, is to change, modify or alter something . The most common use of the mutant concept is associated with organisms that mutate due to a change in their structure or composition .

A mutant, therefore, is a being that experienced a modification in its genesor that descends from an organism that has undergone these changes. The mutants, due to the genetic alteration, exhibit different characteristics to those shown by the other individuals of their species.

The mutation is usually considered as something negative, since it can be caused by illness or contamination , to name two possibilities. However, there are mutations of other classes that are necessary for the adaptationand survival of the species.

Certain cases of mutant individuals are more common than might be assumed. The albinism , in fact, is a typical example of mutation that causes a lack of melanin in the skin, hair and eyes of those affected.

In science fiction and fantasy literature, the mutant condition appears in a much more spectacular and oversized way. Thus, in the field of fiction , mutants may have superpowers that use, as the case may be, to do good or to cause chaos. Wolverine , also known as Cheetah and Wolverine (in Latin America and Spain, respectively), is an example of a mutant in the fictional universe. For example: "Yesterday I saw a movie in which a group of mutants frightened people" , "In the last book by the French author, the salvation of the world is in the hands of a mutant who can fly".

X Men

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby are the creators of a group of mutant superheroes belonging to the Marvel Universe known by the name of X-Men , X - Men and X -Men , by region. This series, which has been published in comics, cartoon series and films, in addition to having appeared in video games, saw the light of day in September 1963 and its fame has transcended the borders of time and space, reaching to conquer to several generations .

The mutants of the X-Men series have supernatural powers, ranging from telekinesis to the ability to fly, through the manipulation of temperature, climate and polarity. These characteristics, according to the story, arose as a consequence of their exposure to the radiation that resulted from the experiments carried out during the Second World War, which considerably altered their genetic structure .

Broadly speaking, there are two groups of prominent mutants: the followers of Charles Xavier (also known as Professor X ) and those of Magneto , two powerful individuals who started out as friends but ended up choosing opposite paths. The first never loses the hope of reaching the union of humans and mutants , getting both sides to lose their fear of each other and merge to live together in an atmosphere of respect and fraternity; Magneto, on the other hand, is governed by his resentment towards humans and fights them tirelessly.

Behind the colorful and spectacular costumes, the striking names and powers of each of the many and varied mutants that make up this impressive universe, the series conveys a message that can help us build a better world, regardless of the existence of such supernatural individuals. Charles Xavier struggles to end hate, with contempt towards different beings, with the fear that emerges in the face of the unknown, and all this can be applied to solve problems as deep and painful as racism, speciesism and homophobia, among others stigmas of the human race.
